DESCRIPTION:Part 1: Understanding the Adolescent Writer and Strengthening Foundational Skills  \nThis session will introduce writing as a multicomponent\, developmental process through a levels-of-language lens\, with attention to word-\, sentence-\, and discourse-level demands. Participants will examine how writing develops across these levels and how the Interactive Dynamic Literacy model (Kim\, 2020) provides a coherent framework for understanding the reciprocal relationship between writing and reading. The session will also explore what proficient writing looks like in secondary settings and consider how difficulties at one level of language may constrain performance at others. Participants will examine structured\, evidence-based approaches such as Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD)\, explicit modeling\, scaffolded practice\, and gradual release of responsibility. The session will also explore how writing expectations vary across disciplines and how instruction can be adapted to support content-area writing.
