Welcome to Talk With Me Baby @ Work: A Workplace Benefit That Builds Brains

The science is clear: a baby’s brain develops more rapidly in the first three years than at any time in life. During this window, loving back and forth conversation literally builds the brain architecture that supports learning, reading, and long-term health.

Talk With Me Baby (TWMB) is a simple, powerful way for parents and caregivers to give babies the strongest possible start – just by talking, reading, singing, and playing.

Designed to help parents understand the deep impact of their words, Talk With Me Baby prepares them with the knowledge that each loving word helps build the connections in babies’ brains that support learning, lay the foundation for reading, and even improve their opportunities for long-term health.

In Atlanta, we are working to establish a new standard of practice for families in our city, beginning at birth. By creating a culture where every parent knows they have the power to build their babies’ brains with their voice, every workplace sees family support as part of their strategy, and every child has access to language-rich early experiences, we can change the trajectory of our city.

Talk With Me Baby @ Work (TWMB@W) is a free digital learning experience designed to support parents and caregivers of children ages 0–5 in building strong language and literacy foundations at home. Through interactive support, families learn how everyday conversations, shared stories, and responsive interactions shape a child’s developing brain.

The Brazelton Touchpoints Center conducted an independent evaluation of Talk With Me Baby at Grady Hospital, demonstrating sustained behavior change among both families and providers. Five years after implementation, the 1,400 families and 178 healthcare professionals interviewed for the study demonstrated its lasting impact. 91% of parents reported continuing to use Talk With Me Baby practices, and 98% of healthcare professionals.

If you think of a child’s world as their ecosystem, you begin to recognize how central language is and should be. Language-centered ecosystems, through which language nutrition is intentionally delivered by caring adults make the most of their brains’ rapid growth, when it is uniquely receptive. It paves the way for literacy – which is the greatest determinant of opportunity.

Every time you TALK, READ, and PLAY with your child, you’re helping them learn language, building and strengthening their brain circuitry, and preparing them for all future learning. Not sure where to start or looking for ideas to make the most of your brain-building opportunities? We’ve got you covered. Go here to find blogs, videos, and resources to help you use the power of language to connect with your child and help them learn. They were born for it and the impact will last a lifetime!
