James M. Cox Foundation Generously Supports Online Education for Teachers

The Cox Campus and Read Right from the Start

Based in Atlanta, the James M. Cox Foundation is named in honor of Cox Enterprises’ founder and provides funding for capital campaigns and special projects in communities where the company operates. The Foundation concentrates its community support in several areas, including: conservation and environment; early childhood education; empowering families and individuals for success; and health.

The James M. Cox Foundation has invested more than $8 million in recent years to promote teacher quality and improve early childhood education in Metro Atlanta, including a $3.5 million grant to the Atlanta Speech School in February 2014 for the Cox Campus. By removing physical and financial barriers, the Cox Campus synthesizes the work of the nation’s leading literacy experts and provides free, online access to research-based professional development for all Georgia teachers of children from birth to eight years of age.

“Our goal is to make it easy for teachers to turn this research into immediate action,” said Cox Enterprises Chairman Jim Kennedy. “We are pleased to join other philanthropic donors, government leaders, and provider agencies supporting this effort. This grant will help the Atlanta Speech School take this model program and its results statewide.”
