  • How do I earn the Cox Campus Structured Literacy Program certificate? 

To earn the IDA Accredited Cox Campus Structured Literacy Program Certificate you will need to take all of the courses in the Structured Literacy Program track on Cox Campus. This includes: 

  • Oral Language is the Foundation for Literacy 
  • GaDOE Dyslexia Video Series 
  • Early Literacy: Print Awareness, Phonological Awareness, and Alphabet Knowledge 
  • Systematic and Explicit Phonics Instruction 
  • Meaningful Read Alouds for Vocabulary and Oral Language Comprehension 
  • Vocabulary Instruction 
  • Reading Fluency 
  • Reading Comprehension 
  • Teaching Writing to K-3 
  • Response to Intervention 
  • Assessing Our Students 

Once you have completed all the coursework above, you will need to successfully pass the comprehensive Cox Campus Structured Literacy Certificate Exam with an 80% or higher. Upon completion, you can access your Cox Campus Structured Literacy Program Certificate.

According to the Nation’s Report Card, roughly 33% of 4th graders in our country read on grade level.  By becoming trained in Structured Literacy, you will learn best practices for teaching reading and writing that are based on more than 20 years of scientific evidence.   • What does earning the Cox Campus Structured Literacy Program Certificate mean? 

By earning this Cox Campus Structured Literacy Program Certificate, you will be able to sit for the Knowledge and Practice Examination for Effective Reading Instruction (KPEERI) exam. This exam, administered by the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI) measures an educator’s knowledge of the principles and practices of Structured Literacy. Once you have passed the KPEERI, you will be eligible to apply for the Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher (SLCT) Knowledge Certificate through CERI.  

  • What does the Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher Knowledge Certificate mean? 

The CERI Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher Knowledge Certificate demonstrates that an educator is highly trained to teach reading effectively to all students in the classroom, but particularly those for whom reading is or may be a challenge. 

The CERI Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher Knowledge Certificate designation gives you the opportunity to advance your teaching career and affirm your knowledge and skills in teaching literacy using a structured approach to language. 

Additionally, depending on the state you live in, the Cox Campus program completion and subsequent CERI Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher Knowledge Certificate designation can serve as proof that you are trained in Structured Literacy if required by state law.
